Jules (Moore) and Nic (Bening) has a solid foundation with regard to their relationship for over 20 years and bore two kids by artificial insemination. Laser is your average teen who has his concentration with girls and sports. Her sibling Joni (Wasikowska) is a sensitive and ever thoughtful sister which just had crossed over from a teenager to a lady and getting ready for college life. The two siblings reminded each other about their quest on knowing their biological father.
Paul (Ruffalo) is the anonymous donor. In the movie, he is a slacker and procrastinator slash entrepreneur that loves organic gardening. He also has a restaurant and was awfully surprised when the spermbank called regarding a meetup of his own son and daughter. It was a successful encounter but then kept it secret from their mom. It is awkward but soon enough that Laser reveals the hangout moments of their bilogical father to their parents.
